We like to think we are pretty technologically savvy. We can send people to the moon and solve almost any lifestyle problem with an iPhone App.
But are we really so hip? Maybe not. For as far as we have come, many of our practices are destructive and unsustainable … particularly in our relationship with nature and its vast resources. Here, there is surely more to learn.
Enter Gutsy Gal Dr. Anabel Ford, distinguished professor and archaeologist. For the past 30 years, Dr. Ford has been researching theAncient Maya to figure out how they created a flourishing and sustainable civilization. She is discovering that the practices the Ancient Maya used—sans iPhones, Computers, GPS, etc.—millennia ago were far more technologically sophisticated (“smarter”) and successful than our own today.
At El Pilar on the border of Belize and Guatemala, she is helping to create a living demonstration of these practices in the hope that El Pilar will “open new paths to knowledge and understanding that will create a conservation model for the future of our civilization.” This Gutsy Gal has been pursuing her passion for years and getting funded all along the way, despite her risky revelations!
