Bringing Home the Bacon…and baby.

"You can have it all…it’s about standing your ground and making choices."

Tamara Pless-Amonte, the National Account Sales Manger of Pepsi Co., is on a very important conference call. She’s running up against a tight deadline and her colleagues are relying on her to finish a project. But instead of commanding their attention in a boardroom, she’s on the couch. Ten month old Romeo babbles in his high chair while his nanny prepares lunch. “Hello love,” Tamara silently mouths to the baby. It looks like this Gutsy Gal has it all.

And she does. As a 21-year veteran for the Pepsi Co., Tamara has spent most of her life climbing the corporate ladder. When she and her husband Rocco finally decided it was time to start a family, they faced disappointment. Five years and many fertility treatments later, Romeo was born. As if on cue, Pepsi offered her a lucrative promotion that would require frequent travel away from home. “I just couldn’t do it,” she said. “I had to figure out a way to do my job but be with my baby.”

And she did. Realizing she was just as effective working from home, Tamara was able to negotiate a position that would allow her ample time with her new son. While it’s not always easy juggling presentations and pacifiers, she makes it happen.
