Cancer Crusader, She Chose Door # 2

For some, terminal Cancer sounds like a death sentence. For others, like Beverlye Hyman-Fead, it’s a call to action.

Beverlye was an accomplished artist when she was diagnosed with Cancer and given eight weeks or less to live. Instead of accepting her “fate,” Beverlye got gutsy and “chose door #2”; a risky but promising treatment that was less invasive than surgery and chemo. Seven years later, Beverlye is still with us and doing great.

A simple question posed from her then 8 year old granddaughter, Tessa Mae, inspired Beverlye and Tessa to write Nana, What's Cancer?—a book that aims to explain Cancer to children in a non-threatening way. Nana, What’s Cancer?, published by the American Cancer Society, can be pre-ordered now by clicking here. Beverlye's first book, I Can Do This: Living with Cancer, Tracing a Year of Hope can be ordered here.

While she’s faced setbacks with her health, Beverlye offers this piece of advice: “Have patience. Believe in your work and don’t give up!”
