The Ultimate Road Trip, America’s First Fearless Female to Cross the Country by Car

At only 22 years old, Alice Ramsey bravely accomplished what none before her had dared. Exactly 100 years ago this June, Alice and her three girlfriends set out in a 1909 Maxwell DA and drove from New York to San Francisco. With no men to guide or protect them, the poncho-clad women challenged the status quo and placed another brick in the Suffrage movement that would eventually lead to equal rights for us all.

This month, Emily Anderson and her father are honoring Alice and her achievement by re-creating Alice’s famous cross country drive. Visit http://aliceramsey.org/the-route to follow Emily as she travels across the U.S. in a restored Maxwell DA. And if she blazes through your town, come out to cheer her (and the memory of Alice) on!

Think Alice is great? Check out the very 1st person to ever take a road trip. 1888 was the year and Berta Benz was the driver!
